1. What is the HDMTD connector?

The differential plug connection system HDMTD by Delock is designed for the high-speed data transfer. The system is related to the HSD connection system. HDMTD is its extension in a smaller and, at the same time, more powerful format. The new, more compact design firstly reduces the weight and saves space because the required mounting space is decreased.

The high-bit-data transmission allows data rates up to 56 Gbps at 20 GHz. The plug connectors with their sturdy enclosures offer thanks to their modularity the option to be applied to many different Ethernet applications and support diverse industry protocols.

The HDMTD connectors can be used with many different cables, for example, Shielded Twisted Pair, Unshielded Twisted Pair, and various high-performance cables. This results in a large variety of application areas with this interface which also can support future networks in vehicles and diverse applications and protocols.

2. Features and advantages of the HDMTD connector

Features

  • Single, Double, Quad and Six plastic housings
  • Plug-in cycles ≥ 25, water-proof variants ≥ 5
  • Suitable for STP, UTP and SPP cables
  • Frequency area DC up to 20 GHz
  • Data rates up to 56 Gbps
  • Light-weight, small dimensions
  • Water-proof versions
  • Impedance 100 Ω
  • CPA versions

Advantages

  • High frequency areas up to 20 GHz
  • Data transfer rates up to 56 Gbps
  • Primary and secondary locking
  • Crimp cable mounting
  • High cable retention force
  • Cost-optimised
  • Scoop-proof

The connector is also characterised by the fact that it is very compact and sturdy. The modular system design saves up to eighty percent mounting space, and damaging the contact pins is nearly impossible. The different encodings of the plastic housings help to avoid faulty plugging.

3. Protocols and applications

HDMTD connectors are, for example, suitable in the Automotive Ethernet area for the protocols 100Base-T1, 1000Base-T1 und 2.5/5/10GBASE-T1. Possible applications include driver assistance systems and autonomous driving, cameras with 4K resolution and higher, high-resolution 4K displays and, last but not least, rear-seat entertainment.

The latter describes innovative multimedia systems for the rear of the vehicle, in which high-resolution screens are integrated into the backrests of the driver and front passenger seats. Passengers in the rear seats can enjoy entertainment in this way. - HDMTD connectors are suitable for STP, UTP, and SPP cables.
